Tools in Nature- Pine Sap

Securing your Survival

In terms of making glue naturally, pine sap is by far the easiest process to manage. Very little work is actually needed on your part as nature has taken care of all the hard parts. Glue made from pine sap can be used to craft weapons, repair equipment, and waterproof containers.
Glue can be an invaluable tool. Repairing your equipment is crucial, but can be impossible without the proper equipment or knowledge. Luckily nature has provided us with a few tools ripe for the picking.

Look for pine trees with damage to the bark, as these trees will have more available sap. Your looking for the dried amber pieces that can be easily taken from the tree. These small sticky rocks of sap are the base of your glue. The next thing your going to want to gather is softwood charcoal. This can be obtained by burning pine.

Once you have your charcoal your going to want to grind it into a fine powder. Place your dried sap into a container to be warmed. Take caution though, as pine sap is extremely flammable. As your sap melts add the powdered charcoal being sure to mix completely. A 5:1 ratio is a good start. There is a more in depth tutorial, including pictures, here at Sensible Survival
